Eugene de Blaas
1843 - 1931
Eugene de Blaas studied painting under his father, the Austrian history painter
Karl de Blaas and also at the Venice and Vienna Academies of Art. He later
settled in Venice where he became Professor at the Academy. De Blaas specialized
in depicting a wide range of Venetian subjects, portraying Italian people in
their native surroundings. He used models from all levels of society. The
artist's works were exhibited in London between 1875 and 1892 at the Royal
Academy, the Grafton Gallery and the New Gallery.
