Jules Alexandre Grun
French painter and illustrator Jules Alexandre Grun was student of Guillemet.
Outstanding among the Salon des Artistes Francais, he was a member of the Salon
committee and served on a museum jury that maintained works of art. Among his
other distinctions, he was a horseman in the Legion of Honor and a 'Merit
Farmer'.
Of his works, " Un Vendredi aux Artistes Francais" (A Friday of
French Artists) and " Portrait du Cardinal Baudrillard" (Portrait of
Cardinal Baudrillard) and the decorative signposts for the Paris Tavern are his
best known and most often cited.
Contemporary travelers and lovers of art can see Grun's original paintings in
number of locations in France. The Lisieux Museum in Lisieux, France is the
home of his " The Ancient Church of the Poet." Admirers of Grun can
also see his original " The Cockatoo" in Paris and "
Flowers" in Pontoise.
